How Do You Pronounce Tony Hadley Correctly? Muhammad Shalehan is a 32-year-old SMRT train captain, A Singaporean radio station was offering a $10,000 prize for a contest, which wouldn't make him rich but still help things family to maintain. However, the contest is not easy precisely for a reason. The Celebrity Name Drop contest is about 14 celebrities, and each saying one word of the 14-words phrase. To identify all fourteen is impossible. Only understanding at least three to four of the names would require extreme knowledge of celebrity voices, let alone all fourteen the first time. However, if you're an avid listener, it’s possible to piece the puzzle together after listening for a lot of time. That's probably intentional, as this ensures that those who really have the money have to put in their effort and loyalty into listening to the station's programs. You can identify other's people's answers, note their score and even work out the sequence in a trial and error. Shalehan was hooked at the program, listening from 7 am until 6 pm on some days. Sometimes the station took an answer on air. Though no one got it right, Shalehan was getting closer and closer to the coveted 14. He read his answer after hearing the clip a final time: Tony Hadley. Madonna. Maggie Wheeler. Ellen DeGeneres. Jim Carrey. George Clooney. David Bowie. Belinda Carlisle. Julie Andrews. Lionel Richie. Stevie Wonder. Meryl Streep. Michael Buble. Rebecca Lim. The radio DJ took a moment and then replied that Shalehan got 13 correct names. He thanked and put the phone away, with no one still knowing which one was number eleven. Finally, on May 6, another man called Jerome Tan participated and gave the exact same answer as Shalehan. He was even congratulated by the DJ on getting it right for the first time in months. However, on Facebook, loyal listeners to the show quickly pointed out that Shalehan had given the same answer a few weeks before that. Despite this, the station replied that the rules of the game required participants to pronounce the celebrities' names accurately, and in his case, he mispronounced Tony Hadley. Shalehan was definitely not okay with this treatment and emailed the station, though they were still adamant in their response that he had mispronounced Tony Hadley. So, what was he going to do? He emailed Tony Hadley himself! He managed to reach Matt Glover, Hadley's manager, who told Hadley that a normal citizen from Singapore needed his help as per the e-mail's title. On the evening of 10 May, Hadley had replied and even sent a video talking! He said that he listened back to the tape and assured him that he had pronounced his name correctly. and decided that Muhammad had won fair and square. The station didn't mention anything regarding this situation, but they proceeded to email Muhammad on May 13, still very much adamant on their decision. They offered a goodwill gesture by reaching out to Shalehan and giving him a goodwill gesture of an undisclosed amount, probably $5,000. They even announced it on Facebook and included a video of his pronunciation, Jerome's pronunciation and Tony Hadley's, which didn't help matters as most people were not persuaded by it. The injustice quickly went viral on social media and the station, was slammed by listeners. Eventually, they apologised and awarded Mr Shalehan the full cash prize.
