Urban Exploration | Sanatorio del Gottardo | Switzerland

Das Gotthard-Sanatorium wurde als Krankenhaus für Tuberkolose-Patienten 1905 nahe der Grenze zu Italien eröffnet und liegt auf 1150m Höhe. Bei meiner Recherche treffe ich allerdings vielmehr auf Geister- und Gespenstergeschichten als auf Infos zur Historie des Gebäudekomplexes. Offenbar ist das Sanatorium der meist besuchte verlassene Ort der Schweiz, quasi Swiss-Beelitz. Und tatsächlich bin ich nicht allein: Fotografierende aus Deutschland und Polen erkunden zeitgleich das Gebäude. Im ersten Weltkrieg wurde das im Jugendstil erbaute Krankenhaus zum Militärspital und anschliessend wieder Tuberkoloseklinik. Bereits sein 1961 steht das Sanatorium leer - wobei es zumindest in den letzten Jahren kaum jemals mehr "leer" war... In my research, however, I come across ghost and ghost stories rather than information about the history of the building. Apparently the sanatorium is the most visited abandoned place in Switzerland. And in fact, I'm not alone: i met photographers from Germany and Poland while exploring. During the First World War, the Art Nouveau hospital was turned into a military hospital and post war turned back again a tuberculosis clinic.
