@ANattestad12 years ago Hello, These mucoceles form from the small salivary glands in the mucosa on the inside of the lip and this tissue does not scar as easily as skin. And even if you get a scar, it will only be visible if you roll your lower lip down with your fingers to inspect the inside. Dr. N. ... 51

@rainbow5023 years ago I had this before. I had to get a surgically removed the first time, and they put stitches in it. Yes, the stitches hurt for maybe 2 or 3 days, but after that, it wasn’t painful. But right after the stitches disappeared, another one grew. After some years down the line, I had to go through the same procedure. I still had to get the stitches, but this time, I was awake when this happened. Of course they numbed the area but after the numbing, it was extremely painful. Also, if you’re getting this procedure, you have to eat soft foods. You won’t be able to smile or touch your lips because it hurts that bad. Best thing to do after this procedure is to relax and eat light. Don’t make it bleed or eat anything that’s going to cause it to unravel. Just some tips, stay safe! ... 49

@TheTealk00711 years ago Beautifully perfect extraction. Congratulations! 1
  • @
@cowbuddha13 years ago nice case. this is an excellent video with textbook technique. good job getting the attached minor salivary gland and not puncturing the sac while dissecting it out. 2
  • @
@MariaNattestad15 years ago There is two different issues here: 1) Having it come back; 2) Getting another one. Issue 1) is as earlier commented unlikely if the treatment is done correctly, whereas 2) is more likely because of the origin of the disease. You can contribute to avoid formation of other mucoceles by avoiding damage to the lower lip's salivary glands, such as biting or sucking on the lip. ... 7

@yessss88628 years ago lol this shit does not hurt at all. I got this done yesterday and took a final a few hours later. So who ever is getting this done seriously don't trip, you'll be fine. 85

@rosebond665711 years ago I've had this surgery before too. The numbing shot was SO affective. My lip was like a balloon. I have another one on my lower lip that I need to get removed but its so small. 20

@hockyguitarguy1412 years ago thank you so much one more question, does this leave a scar of any sorts? 1
  • @
@Duglz11 years ago To answer a couple of your questions. In the US it is covered by insurance. I just had mine done yesterday, the pain is very minor and swelling is the only annoying about post op.

@stuartwalker87557 years ago had this done today and it was nothing!!! don't worry at all if you're getting this done. only weird bit was afterwards when you can't feel your lip for a few hours. 6

@ursaurabhhere11 years ago As mucocele is the pooling of saliva from a traumatised minor salivary gland or its duct it will increase in size unless it is surgically removed. It is not an infection so the medications cannot supress it. As it is a minor surgical procedure and involving the soft tissues, initial healing starts in 3 days and is complete by 4 weeks. ... 28

@uxtalzon14 years ago I'd remove my mucocele myself if I didn't have to slit open my lip and sew it shut after. I mean, just over the counter mouth-numbing stuff (Orajel) would suffice for the pain, but jesus that little cyst is stubborn. Keep biting into my lip because of it. ... 26

@StubbsEffects13 years ago i had this done a few weeks ago. heres a few things: 1. surgery doesnt hurt. i wasn't even put to sleep..they used a local anesthesia 2. it does swell/hurt for a couple days. (only 3 or 4 days if you keep ice on it, rinse with saltwater every few hours, and sleep more upright than usual) so try and get the surgery on a friday and you may be good for school monday :) 3. keep pressure. 4. I have braces, so i had to wear wax on them because it kept getting caught on the cut ... 4

@eappleto15 years ago I just got this done today. I was surprised at how quick and easy the procedure was (there was an option for nitrous oxide in addition to the novocain but i didn't want to pay for it. I really didn't need it in the end.) However, the novocain has now worn off and I am in extreme pain. This video is putting it into perspective. No wonder it is hurting ... 9

@Anatteby16 years ago The Vicryl suture was used because it handles easier than the gut suture. The type used was Vicryl rapid which resorbs quicker than the traditional vicryl. 1

@dlaroc7 years ago Ive had one of these for 4 years now. I just finally went to the oral surgeon and come to find out, its not a Mucocele. Its just scar tissue from accidently biting my lip really hard over and over. I go on the 22nd to get it removed and can't wait! Finally won't feel like people are looking at my lip when I'm talking to them lol ... 6

@soul4tran12 years ago Amazing video! Thank you sooo much! I didn't know the mucocele was an actual "ball" where you can remove. I thought it was simply a blister. I've punctured and drained a recurring mucocele that seems to reappear when I eat or drink something hot like coffee. It's strange. It all started after I bit my lip accidentally while chewing which caused a bruise. Then whenever I have something hot, it just forms. It eventually goes away but extremely annoying. Fascinating video! :) ... 15

@Dom7111113 years ago To get my mucocele removed, I first went to my regular GP. But it grew back so I got it cut out twice by a Oral Surgeon. So far I've had 6 injections and 9 siches. It has grown back again. I researched the mucocele and apparently, if you leave it for too long, it may leave a permanent bump. Dont let this happen to you. Gurgle warm saltey water mixture six times a day and see a surgeon to get it removed. GOOD LUCK ... 2

@zariyahrakari71816 years ago I have a question.. Maybe about 6 years ago I fell to the ground, busting my lip onto a rip and it had major swelling. My mother never took me to the hospital for she thought the swelling would just go down on its own like a regular busted lip. But now on my lip (not inside) I have a bump about the size of hers and I want it removed. I just don't know if this is the same procedure I'll need done because I've had it for so long. ...

Anyway it fits all of the normal stuff other then that it does not hurt and looks like this.

@gjulkkkknnn13 years ago @AMNHU it's ok, i understand it.. thats the reason why somehow I hesitate to undergo surgery because of its tendency to come back.. mine is not that big, when I dont really disturb it with my tongue nor bite it, it doesnt grow that big so Im planning not to undergo surgery yet, anyways its not that harmful to our health, right? mine is on my lower lip and for now it doesnt really affect how i speak, its just that im so conscious about it. thanks for bothering to reply.. :) ...

@thedeeman16 years ago Question: I had one of these removed a month ago, and they did not stitch it. The biopsy revealed "nerve cells", probably from trauma to the area. Now there is a lot of white tissue in the area, elevated, and a mucosele as returned I believe. Is there a possibility of malignancy developing after surgery? ...

@cybersalad15 years ago I just developed one of these a few weeks ago--nowhere near as big. But kind of annoying. (It's in a place where I *ALWAYS* bite my lip while eating). • @
@Anatteby12 years ago @MultiAlec13 I think it was. It often comes back and most will need surgical removal as demonstrated.
  • @
@Anatteby14 years ago @BrandoEFC The surgery must be damaged a branch of the nerve that supplies the area. It is not an uncommon occurrence since these nerves are very small and run very superficial in the lip. The risk is less the closer the mucocele is to the midline. Most patients get used to it and after a while, it does not bother them anymore ...

@coolsin9015 years ago My roommate had this problem. Hers was slightly larger and a see-through layer had formed on the topmost layer of the mucocele. She did go to a dental hospital to find out what it was. None of them could identify it until referred to a specialist who commented that it was an accummulation of mucus. Post-surgery her lips swelled to almost double the size. It has been almost 4 months now, and her lips are abnormally large. What do you reckon, doctor? ... 4

It was'nt much fun, but bareable. Worst part is the injection in the lip/gum. The rest you don't even feel. With pain killers, and liquid food for the first 2 days, its not a bother! Just wondering how long it takes to properly heal. Feels like it's getting there after 2 days, which is good! Make sure they remove the gland! Or it will grow back! ...
