Famous Middle Eastern Dessert Basbousa Recipe | Easiest way to make Basbousa.
Middle Eastern Cake - Basbousa
Ingredients:
For the syrup
Sugar - 1 cup
Water - 1 cup
Rose essence - 1 tsp
Juice of half a lemon
For the cake
Eggs - 3
Finely granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
Melted butter/ flavorless oil- 1/2 cup
Yogurt - 1 cup
Vanilla essence - 1tsp
Refined flour - 1/2 cup
Semolina ( bareek rava)- 1.5 cups
Desiccated coconut - 1/2 cup
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Milk - 1/2 cup
Method
• Heat a pan and add water and sugar into it.
• Bring it to a boil.
• Add lemon juice , stir well and switch off the flame.
*Add rose essence and keep it aside to cool.
• In a large whisking bowl, add room temperature eggs, sugar and blend them well.
• Add melted butter ( SHOULDN'T BE HOT) vanilla essence and yoghurt and give it a good mix.
• Now add semolina, refined flour, baking powder and milk and incorporate the ingredients well.
• Transfer the batter to an 8 inch baking pan greased with butter and lined with semolina.
• Place the pan in the oven preheated to 180°C .
• Bake the cake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the toothpick inserted comes out clean.
• Remove the cake and make cuts as shown in the video.
• Pour sugar syrup onto the warm cake .
• Decorate the cake pieces with chopped nuts of your choice.
• Tastes best when served warm.
