Escape Attempt Skipjack Sailing 14—The Adventures of a Navy Nuke Escapee

Welcome to all! Our favorite nuclear escapee refits an old steel sailboat, on his quest to escape both nuclear power and the rat race. Russ is a submarine electrician and a naval officer, and a Senior Reactor Operator….but that is all now left behind. With a loosely held project plan, and a smattering of general technical and mechanical aptitudes, and a history of boat ownership and navigation as hobbies, Russ is now working the light-refit of a steel 13-meter Smelne Veenjekotter located in Scotland, but bound for the tropics. Together we’ll learn about everything from marine heads to diesels, DC and AC power systems, solar and wind power, and everything in between. In this episode, Russ considers looming lockdown in Scotland, terrible weather, passport restrictions....and makes an escape attempt from the weather of the UK, restricted by his passport and Covid restrictions. Will he make it to a tropical oasis?
