It is located mid-way between Kurukshetra and Geeta Updesh Sthal Jyotisar. * Bhishma Pitamah’s real name was Dev-vrat, and in order to fulfill his father Shantanu’s desire, he got a pledge to remain celibate throughout his life. * And owing to his great oath, his new name was Bhishma Pitamah. For around 10 days, Bhishma Pitamah was leading the Kauravas army, but then Shikhandi was deliberately placed before Bhishma and the latter dropped his bow. * Archer Arjuna then pierced Bhishma Pitamah’s body with a volley of arrows. * Later, Arjuna prepared a bed of arrows for Bhishma till he breathed his last. Feeling thirsty, when Bhishma Pitamah asked for water, Duryodhan brought water in an expensive urn, but he refused to drink from it and insisted that Arjun should quench his thirst. * Arjun used Par-Janya arrow and hit the earth to form a kund (sarovar) and spring of water quenched Bhisham’s thirst. This place is called as Baan-Ganga or Bhishma Kund. * A temple has been made in the memory of Bhishma Pitamah. In which, Bhishma Pitamah is shown resting on the bed of arrows and by his side are standing, Lord Krishna, Archer Arjuna, rest Pandavas, and Maa Ganga Ji. * In the Bhishma Pitamah temple, one also gets to see Shree tarkeshwar Mahadev Mandir, where people come to pay respects to Lord Shiva. * Along with it, one finds the idols of Maa Durga, Maa Saraswati, Panch-mukhi Hanuman ji. * There is also one 26 feet long Lord Hanuman’s statue situated which is easily visible from quite a distance owing to its tall stature. * Many pillars have been installed around the temple upon which teachings of State-craft (Raj-Dharma) has been engraved mentioned in the Shanti-Parv scripture, which were taught by the Pitamah Bhishma to eldest Pandava Yudhisthar as he prepared to assume role of kingship.
